Elective subjects

Elective subjects add an extra dimension to the folk high school year!

We have dedicated teachers who present elective subjects they are passionate about - naturally leading to more motivating teaching.

Each student chooses a total of 4 elective subjects throughout the year (2 in the fall and 2 in the spring)

Cooking

Create healthy, delicious, and nutritious dishes. We have a state-of-the-art school kitchen where you can learn, and excel in, the art of cooking. Explore various culinary traditions, from dinners to desserts and baking.

Lego

Svein, one of our devoted teachers, loves LEGO. He's stocked up on lots of LEGO bricks, so everything is ready for the great build. Whether you enjoy following instructions or letting your creativity run wild with unique constructions, this is your opportunity. LEGO is for all ages - it's a blast!

Drama

Drama is a playful elective where you can experience significant personal growth. We aim to become a closely-knit group that dares to challenge ourselves and each other. Engage in classic drama exercises in various forms, and if desired, we perform for an audience of our choosing.

Sewing - Costume Making

We have a fantastic costume room at our school. The costumes, crafted by former students, are now available for our own events. Do you have an idea for a new addition to our costume collection? Then this elective is tailored for you. We're all about creativity and innovation, while also learning an invaluable life skill - mastering the art of the sewing machine. If you're keen on trying to sew for yourself, this elective also facilitates that.

Ball Games

Having a ball with balls! This elective explores various ball sports. Dive into your favorites and give a shot to new sports you haven't tried before. Volleyball, soccer, and floorball are timeless classics always on the agenda.

Basics Workout

Workshop

Primarily geared towards those interested in cars and tinkering with them. Often, students from the “Bil og motor” class form the majority in this elective. However, if you're on a different track but passionate about learning, fixing, and working on cars, our skilled elective teacher is available to support and guide you.

Jens Café

The school proudly presents its own café equipped with a top-notch coffee machine and grinder. Here, we craft a variety of coffee beverages, providing training along the way. This elective is for those eager to contribute to this space, bringing joy to themselves and others. We offer coffee, goodies, soft drinks, and occasionally, cakes, all at student-friendly prices.

DIY - Do It Yourself

Let your creativity flourish! While you'll have assigned tasks, there's plenty of room to initiate your own projects, big or small. Perhaps you fancy sewing a pair of pants? Or learning Japaneese paper folding? How about crafting jewelry or painting a picture? If we have the tools, you’re good to go.

Run 4 Fun

Acquire fundamental knowledge of running techniques. Equipment, goals, and planning are essential elements in establishing a solid routine and a strong foundation to make running a part of your everyday life.

Knitting

This is the place to indulge in yarn and needles. Find inspiration and unleash your creativity. Learn various techniques such as pattern knitting or cabling. Suitable for both beginners and experienced knitters. How about knitting your own sweater?

Mentoring

An opportunity to explore the path ahead. Are you wondering what your future holds? This elective helps students identify their strengths and passions, offering guidance in finding suitable academic pathways for the coming years.

This elective will mainly be taught in Norwegian.

Guitar

This course is designed for both beginners and those with just a little experience. We focus on chord progressions, ensemble playing, and learning chords.

Who knows, there might even be a small performance at the end of the semester?

Street Art

Create your own unique artwork. Drawing inspiration from renowned street artists like Banksy and Dolk, our sessions are fun and creative. We collaborate to develop cool expressions using techniques that don't require prior drawing skills.

Strength and conditioning

Learn the ins and outs of effective strength workouts. Focus on proper technique and mastering a diverse range of exercises. We have an excellent strength room with plenty of options.

Get in Shape

With the school's training facilities, there are great opportunities to build a versatile and robust physique. A fantastic addition to your daily routine for those keen on getting in shape. This course offers a variety of training methods.

Yearbook

Everyone loves revisiting cherished memories from their time at the folk high school. Do you have a knack for writing or a passion for photography? The yearbook elective might be your perfect fit. Together, as a team, we'll create a yearbook that's always a hit among students. It's your chance to add your personal flair before we send it off for professional printing, ensuring a polished final product.

Volleyball

Enhance your volleyball skills. Gain a fundamental understanding of the game with plenty of practical sessions and excellent training facilities.

Genealogy Research

Delve into the excitement of uncovering your historical roots. You'll be guided in the use of genealogy tools while personally exploring traces, stories, and images, digging deeper into your family's history over time.

X-fit

High intensity and heart rate! A motivating elective focusing on full-body workouts.

Step Aerobics

A motivating workout using step boxes to create an engaging exercise routine focused on high intensity and well-being.

Outdoor Excursions

The elective for those who enjoy embracing nature in good company. We plan shorter excursions in the local area, complete with firewood for a cozy bonfire, marshmallows, hot dogs, and cocoa.

Films from the South

Join us in the afternoons to watch critically acclaimed movies from around the world, likely ones you haven't come across before.

Football

Get ready to play a lot of football. When weather permits, we play football outside on a fantastic artificial turf pitch. Either way, there'll be plenty of action on the ball. Join us for a good time and showcase your skills.

Music Production

Music production covers equipment, knowledge, and the steps necessary to record or create a song. Throughout this elective, you'll go through the process of creating a song from the initial idea to a finished track in mp3 format.

Hunter's Exam

Seize the opportunity to acquire the knowledge necessary to pass the hunter's exam. Both theoretical and practical aspects will be covered in lessons. Students are responsible for paying the costs associated with exam fees, books, legal materials, and ammunition for the practical test.

This elective will mainly be taught in Norwegian.

The teaching material is also in Norwegian.

Board Games

Are you fascinated by the wide array of enjoyable board games out there? At our school, we have a vast collection, catering to students who enjoy everything from quick-paced games to thought-provoking strategic ones. The variety of games will provide you with numerous challenges and enjoyable moments of accomplishment.

Smart with Money

As you step into adulthood, you'll take on the responsibility of managing your finances. It can be overwhelming, a bit daunting, yet also quite exciting. We'll cover practical aspects and discuss the choices and priorities you'll encounter as you move forward. Finance is about more than just money =)
